I’ve always been an organised person but organised doesn’t mean productive. I am a huge fan of creating to-do list and it give you all different emotions when you check off the task (like getting right answer of math question) but the only challenged I faced was procrastinating this listed task I had to achieve. It’s been over a month since I started using time blocking and it has been a game changing for me. Now I am more organised and more productive.

What is Time Blocking?

Time blocking is dividing your days into blocks and assigning specific tasks to each block. During this time you only focus on specific task.

Time blocking is a million times better than simply creating a to-do list(but I still use it..will tell you later) and hoping you’ll get to cross things off by the end of the day. By scheduling in your tasks, you prioritise what needs to get done AND you know exactly when it will get done. So I am no more clueless and wasting my time on prioritising things. Initially, I used to plan my day a night before but now I plan my week on sunday eve which help me to organise and priorities my tasks in advance and it set the tone for whole week.

Cal Newport states: “It generates a massive amount of productivity. A 40+ hour time blocked work week, I estimate, produce the same amount of output as 60+ hours pursued without structure.”

How to Time Block

It’s pretty simple:

  1. Jot down all the task you need to complete in this week. That’s where my todo list come in action.
  2. Then list them from low priority to high priority.
  3. Then create time blocks accordingly based on the estimated time you will take to complete.
  4. Volia! You’re done.

Some tips to help you to make most out of the Time Block

  • You need to be strict and focused with you time block. No distraction.
  • You can create block as long or as short you want.
  • Time block your whole day from waking up to wind down. Include break as well.
  • DON’T OVER SCHEDULE YOURSELF.

What I love about Time Blocking

Time blocking has really helped me to be more productive and in time blocking you’re more focused toward one task rather than juggling around different task and messing them up.

Once you being with time blocking, you’ll be more productive and won’t be frustrated with yourself for losing hours. I encourage you to try time blocking out for a week. Come back and share your experience in comment section.
